Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Set up in 2001, the .NAME top-level domain name extension is the only one intended for personal websites only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are known by. At the beginning, just 3rd-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to secure john.doe.name, you were supposed to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also allowed. Already bought 3rd-level names remained online.
